Someone posted this on Facebook today. He and I both grew up and live in Cedar Lake, IN, where this spectacle is to take place later today. My immediate response:
I always have the same reaction when I see Westboro in the news. I get so angry, and then I get sad. These people spew hatred, and claim to stand upon the side of a loving God. They use the rights upheld by our servicemen to defame them. They self-righteously proclaim their message on their soapbox of ignorance. The Bible I read says “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (I John 4:8). If you can somehow reconcile your hate and God’s love, you are a far greater hypocrite than our honorable servicemen.
I hope to dive deeper into this in a later post. Until then, thank those who wear the uniform. They should never have to put up with people such as these.
