Holy Spirit Shows Up at Worship Night

Holy Spirit Shows Up at Worship Night

There was a wonderful night of worship at Living Stones on Sunday. Along with the music, there were about 70 people baptized.

It was a great night.

What I want to share now is a little behind-the-curtain view. You see, there was a song on Sunday night that I was leading, and in no practice had I pulled off the high sections to a degree that made me comfortable to think I’d do them well for the worship night.

Sunday morning, another worship leader led that same song, but on the second verse stayed in the lower octave. I legitimately liked it that way and thought to myself, “I’ll do that when I lead that song tonight. It’s nice, and it will help me save my voice a little.”

It was the second song in the worship night, and I sang the first verse in the lower octave, as planned. As the second verse was coming around, I was hearing the intro and counting down to start singing again. “Okay, here we go. Second verse in the low octave,” I thought.

That was when I heard the Holy Spirit clearly say to me, “Kill it!”

“Um, I have not succeeded in this once. Not in one of my practices here at the church or at home…but if You’re telling me to do it, I know I will this time.”

I started in, and the notes just flowed out, and would continue to do so for the rest of the song. I would go on to hit notes that I’d only barely considered trying even in practice. All glory to God, as it was not me at all. I had no expectation in myself that night, but only in what God would do, and wow did He show up.

In this and many other things, I’m learning that God seems to love to let you get to the place where you understand the impossibility of something, just so you’ll know what HE did when that impossible thing actually happens. Strip away any thought that you were able to do something yourself, and you’ll understand that God did it, and you’ll give Him all the glory.

Time after time, He comes through.

Father, we thank You that You are so good! We look behind us and we see Your faithfulness again and again, despite our own weakness. We look forward to what You’ll do with and through us in the future! Help us always to remember that You’ve got this…no matter what the “this” is. In Jesus’ mighty Name, amen!
