I love my church. I love my church family. This past Sunday, I was reminded again of the goodness of God. This is not a rare occurrence that causes me to write about it, but rather this particular instance stands out in a way.
As one of the worship leaders at our church, I was singing on stage the song “Hallelujah for the Cross”. I came to the part that reads:
“You have won me with your kindness, chased me down when I was lost.” (17:47 in the video)
As I sang the words “chased me down when I was lost,” I “happened” to see the face of a man in the crowd. The very man who had invited me to come to this church, the man who had prayed and cried with me when my marriage was over (praise God, it wasn’t over!).
And as I sang those words, and saw his face, and I was struck with the beautiful depth of it all, I could hardly finish the line. This is not normal for me.
There are songs that have made me cry every time I’ve practiced them, but as far as I can recall, I’ve never lost my composure on stage. I think it’s a kind of grace that God gives, which is certainly not to say there’s anything wrong with losing your composure on stage (or off) during worship.
In terms of the things I do well in my life, there are those that know me as a computer whiz and those that know me as a musician. I wear other hats as well, as we all do. My career is in the computer whiz arena, but my greatest gifting and most training is as a musician, specifically as a vocalist. None of that experience could stand against the realization of how far God had brought me out of the depths of my sin – that He loves me enough to bring people into my life to guide me back to Him.
I like to have a point to the things I write in these blog posts, and this is really just me sharing something beautiful that God did for me. Perhaps to wrap it all up, I’ll say this:
God loves you. He sees you, and He knows just how to show you that both of those things are true.
Thank you, God, for loving us so well, wherever we are in our journey, and especially when we’re far from You!
